Community Engagement
We inspire, explore and grow together.
In addition to holding community forums, we are active with our local community year-round. Our mission reflects the diversity of our congregation.
2SLGBTQIIA
As a member of Affirm United, we are committed to being Public, Intentional and Explicit in our support of people of all gender and sexual identities. In June we participate in Pride in the Park, host Rainbow Supper Church, Drag Queen Storytime and our annual Pride Service – but of course we celebrate diversity all year long.
Our Neighbourhood
As a downtown church, we support the events of the Downtown Business Association. We also address the needs of the community through a variety of programs and partnerships.
- We provide shower and laundry services free of charge on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings for those in need.
- Every Monday, volunteers prepare and deliver nutritious, delicious meals for 250 to 300 people in need—serving thousands each year with dedication and heart.
- We host several Indigenous agencies and groups at no charge as part of our commitment to reconciliation. As these relationships grow, we recognize opportunities for collaboration in activism, worship and celebration.
- Silver Spire is home to arts organizations such as Carousel Players, Avanti Chamber Singers and Willow Arts Community. Our sanctuary is a wonderful concert venue for Gallery Players.
- Eight recovery groups meet regularly at Silver Spire: Alcoholics Anonymous (3), Al-Anon, Cocaine Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Wellbriety. We also host the annual Overdose Day of Remembrance.
- We host many events such as SilverFest, Community Yard Sale and Cultural Arts Days.
